South Glengarry -- A Kilt Skate Carnival

The Townships of North and South Glengarry take turns hosting a kilt skate each year. Last year’s was called off because of the pandemic. This year it was South Glengarry’s turn again, and they proved once more that the Glengarries know how to throw a party. The kids couldn’t wait to get back out on the ice.

They met their friends.

They observed the public health protocols.

Scottish culture was celebrated with bare knees and ice.

The local Member of Provincial Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, Jim McDonell, was on hand for the opening ceremonies.

After the speeches, he took some turns around the rink himself.

Meanwhile, upstairs at the Tartan Hall of the Char-Lan Recreation Centre, the pipers played…

The McCullough Dancers danced…

And the music from The Hallions continued into the afternoon.

Once again, the Township of South Glengarry planned outdoor Winter Carnival events to go along with the skating and music and food indoors. A big hit with families are the free wagon rides through the beautiful village of Williamstown.

But you have to take your chances when predicting the weather in the Ottawa Valley in late February.

Inside, the skating continued — another successful Great Canadian Kilt Skate for the Township of South Glengarry.
