Kilt Skate at Moncton's Polarfest

For the second straight year, Scots and Scots-at-heart in Moncton, New Brunswick, have celebrated their cultural roots at the annual Polarfest winter carnival.

Setting up a station along the city’s Muskrat Skating Trail, the organizers welcomed questions from skaters — and provided skaters with an opportunity to have their photos “framed” to celebrate their Scottish heritage.

All it takes is a little bit of tartan to change a skater into a kilt skater. And a little bit of tartan also comes in handy in tarting up a picture frame.

Note the old-fashioned tube skates hung around the gentleman’s neck. Other Moncton skaters preferred a more contemporary style.

And they added a clan banner for embellishment.

The total effect turned heads on the Muskrat Trail.

Meanwhile, another generation was introduced to this unique Scottish-Canadian way to showcase their heritage.

And off they all go down the Muskrat Skating Trail.

Congratulations to Jenna Morton and her team at the Moncton Highland Games on another successful kilt skate.
